Everybody knows the sound of an alarm siren, but how many of us actually go and investigate what has caused the alarm to activate? The days of an alarm siren causing neighbours to call around to check if everything is in order are long gone unfortunately. A stand alone alarm system is not a very effective tool for protecting your premises.
To be effective it must realistically be monitored by some means. The simplest monitoring is to connect the alarm to your landline in the house and when it activates it can alert the keyholder of an activation. However this has a downside. If you are sound asleep in bed and you have a break in there is no point in the alarm calling you! The alarm sirens have already woken you. What needs to happen is the alarm to call an independent third party so that help can be dispatched. This will usually mean having it connected to our 24 hour central monitoring centre. They receive an alarm signal and alert pre arranged keyholders and the Gardai if required. There is an annual fee for this service, but it provides peace of mind in many situations, knowing that there will be a friendly voice on the end of the phone until the problem has been sorted out. We can connect to our central station by landline, GSM (mobile phone) technology or in higher risk premises a secure radio link , which unlike a phone line or GSM signal, cannot be cut or blocked. See HERE for current Garda policy regarding monitored alarms.
